Same-Day Drayage at the Port of Long Beach
Emergency pulls, last-free-day recoveries, urgent re-deliveries. When the container has to move today, we have the dispatch power and the fleet to make it happen.
Some loads can't wait. Neither can we.
Last free day hits tomorrow. Your production line runs out of raw material in 6 hours. The customer called and the delivery has to land today, not Friday. These are the calls we take, every day.
Same-day drayage at POLB is about three things: an appointment when the terminal says there are none, a truck that's actually available, and a driver who knows the terminal well enough not to waste an hour at the wrong gate. We've built our fleet, our dispatch, and our La Mirada yard around making that possible.
Call before 10 AM with a clean container (no holds, fees paid, paperwork in order) — we'll pull it and deliver it the same day in most SoCal zips. After 10, we'll still try, but we'll be straight with you about the window.
Built to move at port speed.
Same-Day Port Pulls
Containers pulled and delivered on the same calendar day when called in by 10 AM (most SoCal zips).
Last-Free-Day Recovery
Box about to accrue demurrage? We prioritize the pull and work around terminal appointment scarcity.
Emergency Re-Delivery
Consignee refused? Wrong address? We re-route and re-deliver same-day when possible.
Dedicated Rapid-Response Fleet
A portion of our fleet is held in reserve daily for urgent dispatches — not pre-booked.
Terminal-Aware Dispatch
Our dispatchers know which piers have capacity and which are backed up. We book where we can actually get in.
After-Hours Option
Some terminals offer after-hours gates; we'll use them when it gets you the container on time.
How same-day actually works.
Call dispatch — not email
For same-day, call (714) 690-9344. Email is fine for quotes, but urgent moves need a voice on the other end.
We check terminal availability
Dispatch pulls the terminal's appointment board live and books the earliest slot. If we have to use an after-hours gate, we'll tell you.
Driver rolls immediately
Pre-staged driver takes the run. Most same-day pulls delivered by 4-6 PM; some by 7 PM depending on terminal + delivery zip.
Why shippers put us on speed dial.
We don't say no reflexively
Same-day is hard; we won't pretend otherwise. But we don't say no until we've actually checked. Most of the time, we can make it work.
La Mirada yard, 20 min to port
The proximity is the whole reason same-day works. A driver can leave our yard at 9 AM, be at the terminal by 9:30, and out by noon.
Asset-based means real capacity
Brokers subbing to owner-ops can't offer same-day reliably — they don't control the truck. We do.

Common questions.
In most cases, yes — depending on terminal appointment availability and the container’s ready status. Precision is an asset-based carrier headquartered in La Mirada, approximately 20 minutes from the port. We own our trucks and employ our drivers, so we do not depend on brokers to source capacity. When you call for a same-day pickup, our dispatch team verifies the container is available, checks for terminal appointments, and dispatches a TWIC-cleared driver from our fleet. Call (714) 690-9344 with your container number and terminal, and we will confirm same-day capability immediately.
The last free day is the final day your container can remain at the marine terminal without incurring demurrage charges from the steamship line. Once the LFD passes, daily storage fees begin and escalate on a tiered schedule — the longer the container sits, the higher the daily charge. Knowing your LFD and acting before it expires is the single most effective way to control your drayage costs at Port of Long Beach. If your LFD is today or has passed, call Precision immediately for same-day pickup.
A pre-pull is when Precision picks up your container from the marine terminal before the last free day and either delivers it directly to your facility or stages it at our local yard for scheduled delivery. Pre-pulling eliminates demurrage entirely because the container leaves the terminal before charges begin. It also avoids the risk of being unable to secure a same-day terminal appointment on the LFD — which during peak congestion can result in days of unplanned demurrage. Pre-pull drayage has an associated handling cost, but for regular importers, it typically costs less than even one day of demurrage charges.
Yes. Precision offers extended-hour and weekend drayage for urgent moves. Terminal gate hours vary by facility — not all Port of Long Beach terminals operate gates on weekends or after hours — but when the terminal is open, Precision can dispatch. For weekend and after-hours requests, call (714) 690-9344 and specify the timeline. We will confirm whether the terminal supports the requested window and assign a driver accordingly.
Demurrage rates vary by steamship line, terminal operator, and the number of days past the last free day. Rates are structured on a tiered schedule — the first few days past LFD are charged at a base daily rate, then rates escalate significantly at day five, and again at day ten and beyond. The rates change periodically and are set by the steamship lines, not the terminals or drayage carriers. Contact your steamship line or freight forwarder for current demurrage rates. What Precision controls is how fast we get your container out of the terminal to stop those charges from accruing.
Precision handles same-day overweight and same-day hazmat drayage with our own specialized equipment and credentialed drivers. For overweight containers, we own triaxle chassis and maintain the required California overweight corridor permits. For hazmat containers, our drivers carry TWIC cards and hazmat endorsements (H endorsements) on their CDLs. Same-day execution for these specialty moves depends on equipment and driver availability at the time of request, but our asset base gives us a significant advantage over brokers. See our overweight drayage and hazmat drayage pages for more detail.
Terminal appointment availability is the most common bottleneck on same-day pickups. If no standard appointments are open, Precision’s dispatch team looks for cancellation slots, same-day releases, and alternative windows based on 35 years of working with Port of Long Beach terminals. In some cases, a same-day appointment is not available at a particular terminal regardless of carrier — this is a terminal-controlled constraint. When that happens, Precision secures the earliest possible appointment and communicates the adjusted timeline to you immediately. Pre-pulling containers before the LFD is the most reliable way to avoid this situation entirely.
